【昆虫食ニュース】フィンランドで11/23、粉末コオロギ入りのパンが販売開始

フィンランドの大手食品会社のファッツエル・ベーカリーは11月23日、粉末コオロギ入りのパンを世界で初めて販売開始しました(フランス通信社より)。

このニュースのポイントは以下の2つだと思います。

① 大企業の食品企業のFazerが、粉末コオロギ入りのパンを販売したこと。
Fazerグループは、以下の公式サイトによると、1891年設立の歴史のある会社です。従業員数15,000人、売上高は16億ユーロ(2,131億円)です。
例えるなら日本の一部上場企業が、昆虫食を販売したようなものかもしれません。

②パンに粉末コオロギを加えたこと。
パンは主食です。パンに粉末コオロギを使うことで、毎日昆虫を食べることができます。
米国でも、既に大手食品企業が粉末コオロギを原材料にした製品の研究開発に着手しています。
一方、日本で欧米のように、一般の食品工場で昆虫を使った製品製造するのは、法的に非常に難しいです。
また、エントモ・ファームズの食用コオロギは、EUや米国、カナダのオーガニック認証を受けています。しかし、日本では昆虫はJASの規格外であるため、製品名に「オーガニック」「有機」という名称をつけることすら法的にできません。

日本で昆虫食を普及するためには、法整備も必要になってくるかと思います。
